Here we have advertised on behalf of our friends over at Berrybrook Steam, a good example of a very recently finished Foster 4" scale traction engine - a very popular design with castings and drawings from Live Steam Models. This engine is in our showroom straight from the builders workshop where it saw only a very few test steamings. Having had a conversation with the engineer, he decided to leave it unpainted with the intention of it being sold and so allowing the prospective owner to finish the Foster in their own livery. The boiler is of steel and manufactured by the reputable Bell Boilers in 2013. All appropriate paperwork and markings have been issued alongside this which will make boiler testing, and road registering if required, simple.
The wheels have freshly vulcanised tyres fitted and the engine itself has been built to a high and exactly standard. Everything is where it should be and operates as it should. It has a balanced crank and is two speed with the sliding gears on a keyway. As with any new build engine, whilst all efforts have been made to weasel out and resolve any niggles, it usually takes a couple of years to run them in fully. We therefore recommend this engine goes to a new owner with at least some degree of prior engineering or mechanicing know how so they are able to resolve niggles as they arise.
Overall, it is a pleasant and well-built Foster which is an excellent blank canvas for someone to really have some fun with!
